Applied Research
At CENIT@EA, our commitment to applied research ensures that our students’ projects are of the highest quality and aligned with the societal needs of the region. By showcasing the strength of our curriculum and continuously engaging with the private sector and civil society, we provide a platform for our students to interface with potential employers, gain exposure to best practices, and increase the chances of commercialising their innovations, ultimately benefiting regional communities.
CENIT@EA has emerged as a hub for innovation, with over 40 students actively engaged in the development of digital products and services through group projects and internships. These innovations have gained recognition and secured private-sector partnerships and participation in mentorship programs, underscoring the institution’s role in nurturing technology-driven entrepreneurship.
In addition, strategic collaborations with over 50 industry leaders such as IBM, KIIRA Motors, and Coca-Cola Kwanza, as Kiira Motors, West Meru Hospital, the Alliance of Biodiversity International and CIAT, CRDB Bank Burundi, the Infectious Disease Institute, Makerere University, and the National Assembly of Tanzania. have facilitated internships, guest lectures, and joint workshops, providing students with invaluable real-world experiences and networking opportunities.
The applied research approach has ensured that 80 percent of CENIT@EA alumnus have found employment or established themselves as self-employed professionals within the EAC Partner States.
As part of their projects, our students have developed innovations that, in some cases, are already in use within these organizations or have the potential to be commercialized with access to funding.
